Hi guys, this week has been very rough to me, I have a lot of anxiety, depression and not being productive as usual. Therefore, I would like to just sit down and talk about my ways to release stress and stay positive during those gloomy days. For those of you who are coming along, you know my blog is heavily photograph based. However, since I stay at home a lot this week and I am not being productive, I don’t have many photos (well, only one actually) for this post, please bear with me. Me and Kevin did the $20 Date Night Challenge two weeks ago and we had so much fun, I believe the $20 challenge post will be up next week so stay tuned for that!
I think it’s normal to feel depressed or gloomy some days in life and I do think people need those days to slow down their pace, recharge and prepare themselves for the next excitement in their life. However, it’s so important to keep yourself entertained and have something to do instead of sleeping through the whole day. I am sharing my ways to keep myself positive when I feel gloomy and don’t have the motivation to do anything.
1. GET UP EARLY AND MAKE YOUR BED
Many people like to sleep through the day when they have nothing to do. However, over sleeping is not a good thing especially when you feel down. My body will feel more tired when I sleep a lot more than I need to, and this feeling will make me even more depressed throughout the rest of the day. Therefore, if I feel very upset or have lots of anxiety at night, I will set myself an alarm for the next day and GET UP before I naturally wake up. It will be very painful to get up especially when you don’t feel good, but it will make you feel a lot better for the rest of the day. Also, remember to MAKE YOUR BED so that you are less attempting to go back to sleep!
2. TAKE A SHOWER AND PLAN YOUR DAY
I love taking shower in the morning, it makes me feel so refreshing and gently wakes up my body. I usually use energizing products in the morning to power up my skin a little bit. I am currently using the Oliver Shower Gel from the body shop, the smell is so fresh and clean. The herbal scent makes me feel like I wake up in the forest:) For night time, I love using the Shea Lavender Liquid Soap from L’Occitane. After the morning shower, I would make myself an easy breakfast, sit down and make a small plan of the day. Most of the time when I feel upset I won’t go out because sometimes I do feel anxious when meeting or talking to people. My plan for the day is usually one or two things, very simple and achievable. (It is very important to not plan yourself a difficult task when you feel upset because you will feel even worse if you end up cannot finish the task.) It could be cleaning, reading, or baking etc. If you are more of an outdoor person, you can plan some activities with your friends or go for a short trip, a getaway trip will definitely make you feel better.
3. PUT AWAY YOUR PHONES AND COMPUTERS
I wouldn’t say social media makes me feel sad, but it could definitely exaggerate my feeling of bored and upset in the gloomy days. Social media helps people around the world connect to each other and it provides tons of information every day. It became the first thing to do after we wake up and the last thing before bed, and it became a habit. I think we should treat social media in a more serious way, let say a smarter way. I used to love exploring different people on Instagram, seeing cool projects, fantastic photography. However, as social media is more popular and well developed, it generally became a tool of product advertising, branding etc. (I am not criticizing any influencer or social media worker, this is a new type of job and those talent people had worked so hard to become who they are right now.) I think as viewers, we should be more conscious on what we are reading and absorbing every day. Are those public accounts really add some value to your life, are you being inspired by those contents? Recently I am constantly cleaning up my follow list, I unfollowed lots of influencers because they add no value to my life excepting guiding me to buy tons of items to look like them or “experience” the same lifestyle. Also, keep an eye on how much time I spend on social media every day, trying to use social media as a way to find inspiration, and spend more time with friends and family.

(Sorry guys, this post is already a million years long, but I really want to share my thought on social media because I think there are so many people who are experiencing the same difficulties as me, and hopefully I can inspire some of you too:)))
4. READ THE BOOK YOU LIKE
I lovvve reading books. It really helps to relax myself and be more positive towards life. I am currently reading ZERO to ONE by Peter Thiel and Love Style Love by Garance Dore. The first one is more like a guide book to start-up business and the latter is a fashion/lifestyle book talking about how Garance Dore become who she is in the fashion empire. (I will do another blog post sharing my thoughts on them, they are amazing.) It just feels so good to learn something new and get some great inspirations. I know it’s now the age of fast pace lifestyle, many people prefer to look at their phones other than reading an actual book. However, as I talked about social media before, use social media in a smart way, put away your phone and look into some books that you haven’t have the chance to read them, you will be amazed by the power of book.
5. STAY ORGANIZED
This one is actually inspired by the home organization book written by Toni Hammersley, and it made me so attempting to clean and reorganize my room. I don’t know why, but cleaning is always the best medicine for me when I feel upset or have lots of anxiety going on in my mind. It just feels so good to put everything organized and let your room brighter. The moment you get up from your lazy couch and do some cleaning, you will start feeling better :))
